No. 1 Capital Christian, No. 2 Sac advance in Gridley tourney

No. 1 Capital Christian and No. 2 Sacramento have advanced to tonight's winner's bracket semifinals of the 60th annual Gridley Invitational boys basketball tournament.

Sacramento will play Newark Memorial at 7 p.m. and Capital Christian takes on Campolindo of Moraga at 8:30 p.m.

Both advanced with opening round wins on Thursday.

Uchenna Iroegbu had 16 points and Tyler Jennings added 14 and D.J. Wilson 11 as Capital Christian defeated Salesian of Richmond 66-60. The Cougars, who led 30-23 at the half, made 23 of 28 free throws. Salesian was 11 of 21 from the foul line.

Solomon Young had 20 points and Christian Terrell added 12 and Tre Finch 11 in Sacramento's 77-64 win over Riordan of San Francisco. Riordan's Jiday Ugbaja led all scorers with 23 points.

Newark Memorial defeated Bullard of Fresno 64-57 and Campolindo downed host Gridley 80-28.
