Pleasant Grove advances in Macres tourney with OT win

No. 6 Pleasant Grove, the two-time defending tournament champion, will play No. 16 Granite Bay at 7 p.m. and Monterey Trail faces No. 7 Cosumnes Oaks at 8:30 in tonight's winner's bracket semifinals of the 7th Annual Mark Macres boys basketball tournament at Monterey Trail High School.

Pleasant Grove, last year's CIF State Division I champions, beat No. 19 Christian Brothers 73-66 in overtime to highlight Thursday's first-round action.

Jaaron Stallworth had a game-high 25 points in leading Cosumnes Oaks over Foothill 81-67; sophomore Charlie Tooley had 19 points and freshman Darren Nelson 15 in Granite Bay's 81-68 win over Lincoln of Stockton; and Leondre Lintz led 10 Monterey Trail players in the scoring column with 13 points in a 51-46 win over Yuba City in other first-round games.
