Whitney's Gimenez, Franklin's Johnson are among five area Sac-Joaquin Section Model Coach recipients to be honored

Five area coaches have been named Sac-Joaquin Section Model Coach recipients for 2013-2014.

They are Whitney football coach Mike Gimenez and Franklin football coach Mike Johnson, Valley Christian volleyball coach Maria Hill, Colfax softball coach Mimi Scott and Davis girls golf coach Rhonda Mohr.

Gimenez has coached football for 21 seasons, first at Woodland then at Whitney. His 2008 Whitney team won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship.

Johnson has coached football 20 years, first at Lincoln of Stockton then at Franklin. His 2000 Lincoln team won the D-I section title.

Hill has compiled a 207-92 record in 15 seasons at Valley Christian.

Mohr has won six league titles in her seven seasons at Davis.

Scott has coached softball six seasons at Colfax and also is the the school's freshman volleyball coach and an assistant alpine ski coach.

The winners will be honored at the section's Lacky Awards scholarship breakfast on April 3.
