Jacoby Ford will not play this season after the Raiders today placed the speedy receiver and kick returner on season-ending injured reserve. Ford had surgery Tuesday to address a Lisfranc injury in his left foot that he aggravated during the preseason. The Raiders had hoped Ford, who also missed six games last year with the injury, would be able to avoid surgery, but decided last week that he was not recovering as they had hoped.
The Raiders also elected to place cornerback Ron Bartell on the league's new short-term injured reserve, meaning Bartell, who fractured his left shoulder blade in the season opener Monday night and is not expected to need surgery, remains eligible to return later this season. Each team is allowed to use the new IR rule on one player. Bartell will be eligible to return to practice Oct. 27 and to play Nov. 11 against the Baltimore Ravens.
Long snapper Nick Guess and cornerback Coye Francies were promoted from the practice squad, the Raiders announced in a news release. That most likely means concussed long snapper Jon Condo will not be medically cleared in time to play against the Miami Dolphins tomorrow. Guess, a first-year player out of Tennessee, was signed earlier this week as a contingency plan for Condo and will be making his NFL debut.
