DeMarcus Cousins' mother, Monique, has been in town the past several days, and as usual, she was candid about her son. We caught up during halftime of Wednesday's Kings-Spurs game at Power Balance Pavilion. I am writing about DeMarcus, his maturation, his changing physique, among other things, for Saturday's Bee. But just a glimpse ahead: When asked about her son's changed physique, his improved conditioning and attempts to change his diet, she cited his agent, John Greig, also a native of Mobile, Ala., and the fact her son lives in California as factors. Greig, who lives in Seattlle, has introduced her son to a variety of foods. But she still can't understand DeMarcus' newfound affinity for sushi, which he eats daily.
"He'll come home and we'll talk about dinner, and he'll say, 'sushi,' " Monique related. "And I'll say 'sushi? sushi? What's with this sushi?' I don't know where that came from, but he just loves sushi."
