In-game blog: Kings vs. Hornets

Kings 99, Hornets 98

Isaiah Thomas forced a turnover with the Kings down by one point and the Hornets in-bounding with 13.2 seconds left and found John Salmons for the go-ahead layup with 6.8 seconds left.

Hornets forward Trevor Ariza's potential game-winning jump shot bounced off the front of the rim as time expired.

The Kings forced 23 turnovers and overcame a rough night from the three-point line and a 55-percent shooting night by the Hornets, who took advantage offensively of the absence of DeMarcus Cousins in the middle.

Marcus Thornton finished with a team-high 25 points for the Kings, who had six players in double figures. Tyreke Evans scored 13 points and Jason Thompson had 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Guard Jarrett Jack led the Hornets with 25 points. Center Chris Kaman finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.

The Kings shot 50 percent from the field.

Hornets 80, Kings 78

Guard Greivis Vasquez hit a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the quarter to send the Hornets into the fourth with a lead.

The Kings did not take good care of the ball at times and now have 11 turnovers.

Marcus Thornton has a team-high 18 points for the Kings. Tyreke Evans has 13 points and John Salmons has 10 off the bench.

Hornets guard Jarrett Jack leads all players with 20 points. Trevor Ariza has 17 points and center Chris Kaman has 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

Kings 58, Hornets 54

Despite it being a matchup of one of the league's lowest-scoring teams (Hornets) and one of its worst-shooting (Kings), this game has so far been a high-scoring one.

The Kings are shooting 55 percent, while the Hornets are shooting 57 percent.

Isaiah Thomas leads the Kings with 12 points. Marcus Thornton has added 10 points, and Tyreke Evans has nine points and three assists.

Center Chris Kaman has 12 points and five rebounds for the Hornets, who also have 12 points from Jarrett Jack and 10 points from Trevor Ariza.

The Kings are missing the inside presence of center DeMarcus Cousins. They are being outrebounded by the Hornets, 22-13, and outscored in the paint, 40-30.

The Hornets have committed nine turnovers, but have been able to keep the game close with the Kings' starters on the bench. Thomas has two fouls, while center Chuck Hayes has three.

Kings 29, Hornets 27

The Kings shot 57 percent in the first quarter and have a two-point lead over the Hornets, who shot 52 percent.

Tyreke Evans and Isaiah Thomas each scored seven points for the Kings. Forward Jason Thompson has five points and three assists.

Guard Jarrett Jack leads the Hornets with eight points. Center Chris Kaman has seven points and four rebounds.

The Hornets have gone early and often to Kaman, who is working with a size advantage over Kings center Chuck Hayes. Hayes started in place of DeMarcus Cousins, who the team said is out with food poisoning.

That leaves the Kings with a limited frontcourt rotation, as J.J. Hickson is sitting out his fourth consecutive game while recovering from a hip pointer. Hassan Whiteside checked in right before the end of the quarter and has started the second quarter on the floor.

Thomas picked up his second foul with 5:30 left in the first period and was replaced by Jimmer Fredette.
