In-game blog: Kings vs. Mavericks

FINAL
Mavericks 110, Kings 100

DALLAS - Thanks to the scoring of their bench, the Mavericks sent the Kings to their fifth consecutive defeat.

After three lackluster showings, DeMarcus Cousins posted game highs of 25 points, 18 rebounds and a career-high six steals. But that wasn't enough to overcome 54 points from the Dallas bench.

Rodrigue Beaubois had 15 points off the bench for Dallas (32-26). Jason Terry added 13 points from the bench.

Dirk Nowitzki finished with 15 points on 4-of-14 shooting.

Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton and Tyreke Evans each had 16 points for the Kings. Jimmer Fredette added 13 points off the bench for the Kings (19-39).

The Mavericks scored 25 points off 15 Kings' turnovers. The Mavs also had 20 second-chance points.

THIRD QUARTER
Mavericks 83, Kings 77

DALLAS - Dirk Nowitzki only has eight points and has missed eight of his 11 shots. But the Kings have not capitalized on the subpar showing by the Dallas All Star.

That's because several Mavs have chipped in to pick up the scoring slack, while the Kings have given up 18 points off their 11 turnovers.

DeMarcus Cousins has 17 points, 15 rebounds and has matched his career high with five steals. Isaiah Thomas had 12 points in the third and is up to 16 points. Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton each have 13 points.

The Kings can also look to their free throws as a reason they trail. The Kings are 4-of-11 from the line tonight.

Brendan Haywood has 11 points to lead Dallas. Jason Terry has 10 points and five assists off the bench.

HALFTIME
Mavericks 57, Kings 50

DALLAS - The Kings got sloppy with the ball (five turnovers) and that allowed the Mavs to get going and take the lead at halftime.

The Kings problem hasn't been offense as it was the previous three games. Tonight they're not rebounding well. The Kings have only three offensive rebounds. Dallas has 10 of its 31 rebounds on the offensive end.

The Mavs have 11 second-chance points, the Kings have five.

DeMarcus Cousins has 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Kings.

That is Cousins' 34th double-double this season, the most for a Kings since Chris Webber had 45 in 2002-03.

Cousins also has four steals and two assists. Tyreke Evans has 11 points and four assists. Marcus Thronton also has 11 points.

Every Mav that has played has scored. Brendan Haywood and Yi Jianlian each have eight points to lead Dallas.

The Mavs shot 55 percent in the second quarter while the Kings were at 40.9 percent.

FIRST QUARTER
Kings 27, Mavericks 25

DALLAS - DeMarcus Cousins is playing well, so it's no surprise the Kings have looked better to start.

Cousins has eight points, seven rebounds, three steals and two assists as the Kings led by as many as seven points.

The Kings will need to do better rebounding, especially if they plan to use their zone defense.

Dallas has nine offensive rebounds, leading to nine second-chance points to keep the Mavs in the game. The Mavs are shooting just 39.3 percent while the Kings are at 52 percent.

Marcus Thornton returned to the starting lineup after missing four games with a bruised left calf. The Kings lost all four games Thornton missed.

Donte Greene started at power forward for the Kings to defend Dirk Nowitzki.

The Kings have not attempted a free throw.
