Kings guard Isaiah Thomas has been named Western Conference rookie of the month for March -- the second consecutive month Thomas has received the honor, the NBA announced today.
Thomas led all conference rookies in assists (4.9 per game) in games played in March and ranked second in scoring (13.6 points per game).
The 23-year-old scored a career-high 28 points and had 10 assists in the Kings' 117-112 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on March 28. He is averaging 10.6 points and 3.7 assists per game this season.
In 23 games since Thomas became the Kings' starting point guard in February, coinciding with an emphasis on playing at a faster pace, the Kings are averaging 105.7 points, compared to 92.6 points per game before that.
The Kings (18-24) play the Minnesota Timberwolves tonight at 7 p.m. at Power Balance Pavilion.
Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who led all rookies in March in scoring (19.9 points per game) and assists (6.7 assists per game) was named the top rookie in the Eastern Conference for the third time this season.
