In-game blog: Kings vs. Spurs

FINAL
Spurs 97, Kings 86

The San Antonio Spurs ended the Kings' two-game winning streak with some precision on offense while the Kings struggled to score after a hot first quarter.

The Kings shot 35.2 percent (32 of 91) which wasn't good enough with the Spurs shooting 48.6 percent (35 of 72) to make four for committing 20 turnovers.

Jason Thompson and Marcus Thornton each scored 17 points to lead the Kings (2-4).

Tim Duncan led the Spurs (5-1) with 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots. Patty Mills had 18 point off the bench for San Antonio.

THIRD QUARTER
Spurs 69, Kings 68

The Kings put together a much better offensive showing in the third quarter. And even though their shooting overall is still bad (37.1 percent) they're in the game.

Jason Thompson has 17 points to lead the Kings and Marcus Thornton has 16. Tyreke Evans scored eight of his 10 points in the third quarter.

Tim Duncan has 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Spurs. Patty Mills has 11 points off the bench for San Antonio.

The Spurs are helping the Kings stay in the game with 19 turnovers that have led to 15 points for the Kings, who haven't had much from DeMarcus Cousins (seven points, four fouls) in 14 minutes.

HALFTIME
Spurs 47, Kings 39

The Kings shooting has gone cold as they managed just 12 points in the second quarter.

Meanwhile the Spurs are shooting 54.5 percent (18 for 33) to make up for having 13 turnovers in the first half.

Spurs veteran Tim Duncan is doing what he does with 12 points and seven rebounds even though he's feeling sick.

Jason Thompson leads the Kings with 10 points. Marcus Thornton has nine points off the bench.

But the Kings are shooting just 34.8 percent. DeMarcus Cousins, Tyreke Evans and Isaiah Thomas have combined to shoot 3 for 15.

Cousins has played only 10 minutes because he has three fouls.

FIRST QUARTER
Kings 27, Spurs 24

The Kings are looking a lot better on offense and already have seven assists after ball movement was a big concern lately.

DeMarcus Cousins has five points, five rebounds and three assists for the Kings. James Johnson is having his best game on offense this season with seven points. Johnson also has three rebounds.

Gary Neal came off the bench to lead the Spurs with seven points. The Spurs are shooting 50 percent (7 for 14) but also have seven turnovers that have led to nine points for the Kings.

The Kings have also been careless to start a game again. Their five turnovers have led to11 points for the Spurs.
