The Kings win over the Lakers was easily their best game of the season. But I'll be more impressed if they can follow that up with a solid effort Friday at Utah.
The Kings' inability to play with energy and focus they showed against the Lakers is baffling.
For the Kings to begin improving, they can't take teams not named the Lakers, Celtics, Thunder or Heat lightly.
Sacramento plays Friday at Utah.
Here's a quick look at how the Kings responded to some of their biggest wins last season:
Dec. 26, 2011: Beat Lakers 100-91.
Next game: Lost 101-79 at Portland
Jan. 20, 2012: Beat San Antonio (Spurs first home loss of the season) 88-86
Next game: Lost 128-95 at Memphis
Feb. 9, 2012: Beat Oklahoma City 106-101
Next game: Lost to Phoenix 98-84
March 9: Beat Dallas 110-97
Next game: Lost to Atlanta 106-99
March 16: Beat Boston 120-95
Next game: Beat Minnesota 115-99
If this trend doesn't change, the Kings will be fun to watch ... against the Lakers ... and woeful against the rest of the league.
If the Kings are to start growing up, they'll show signs of changing that trend Friday night.
