CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The duo of Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton combined for 34 points in Saturday's win over the Charlotte Bobcats.
That meant no time for Jimmer Fredette.
My Twitter timeline was peppered with questions about why Fredette didn't play against the Bobcats.
The answer is simple. He's the third point and shooting guard.
Actually, Fredette has functioned best as an off guard for the Kings. He might have played his best when Evans and/or Thornton were out because there were plenty of minutes available at shooting guard.
Evans is the starter and Thornton will get every chance to spell him. They are the Kings' second and third leading scorers, respectively, so that's how it will be.
Fredette didn't play in the first half of the previous two games so the pecking order is clear.
It would appear barring injury or Keith Smart looking for a spark, Fredette will have to bide his time for another opportunity.
And don't hold your breath waiting on a trade. With the current ownership situation, don't expect any deals, especially deals that add salaries beyond this season.
*The Kings are 16-25 at the halfway point of the season with a 9-8 record in their last 17 games. If the Kings were to finish a game over .500 over the next 41 games, they'll finish 37-45
That would be the most wins since Reggie Theus led the Kings to a 38-44 record in the 2007-08 season.
Who would have thought back then Kings fans would think of how good things were under Theus?
The best winning percentage the Kings have had in a season since was Smart last season (22-44, .333), which the Kings are on pace (.390) to surpass.
No, that's not playoff worthy, but it is progress.
Before the season I predicted the Kings would win 35 games. With a better-than-average second-half of the season the Kings could surpass that.
