MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The plan was to start shortening the rotation but that didn't happen in the Kings' 85-69 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on Friday night.
It was the Kings worst offensive performance of the season and Keith Smart shuffled in everyone he had available.
Only two players (DeMarcus Cousins, John Salmons) played more than 30 minutes. Ten players played at least 10 minutes.
The Kings shot a season-low 34.1 percent to go with season lows for scoring and assists with nine.
"You're searching for something," Smart said. When you're as flat as we were, 14 points (in the first quarter), 16 points (in the second quarter) you're searching for anything you can possibly get."
Smart had credited shortening his rotation with back-to-back wins. But the lineups were mixed-and-matched Friday.
The lineup that finished the game was Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Thornton, Travis Outlaw, James Johnson and Thomas Robinson as the last attempt to make a run to win the game.
*One way to generate offense would be to get to the free throw line. The Kings only shot 15 free throws.
"We didn't get those calls that we needed," Smart said. "And not because the refs didn't make the calls but we didn't create the kind of contact that's necessary to get (calls)."
