Kings fire rest of Smart's coaching staff; Bobby Jackson to be reassigned

The Kings announced assistant coaches Alex English, Clifford Ray, Jim Eyen and Bobby Jackson have all been fired, effective immediately.

Jackson, however, will remain with the organization in another capacity, according to the press release sent by the team.

The contracts for the assistant coaches expire June 30.

New head coach Michael Malone met with the assistants Tuesday morning to inform them of his decision.

Malone has already said his father, Brendan Malone, would join his staff.

Malone could find himself competing with Charlotte coach Steve Clifford for assistant coaches. Both have ties to Bob Beyer, an assistant with Golden State that also coached with Clifford in Orlando.

Both are also considering Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing for a coaching position.

Clifford worked with Ewing in Orlando and Houston. Ewing is also good friends with Charlotte owner Michael Jordan.
