The Kings were one of three teams fined by the league Tuesday for statements, remarks, conduct, etc., that could be construed as "tampering" with a player who is currently under contract. In a slight slip of the tongue during his introductory press conference 10 days ago, rookie coach Michael Malone mentioned that Chris Paul "would look good in a Kings uniform."
An assistant in New Orleans when the veteran point guard was with the Hornets, Malone was responding to a question about his relationship with the Clippers free-agent-to-be.
"The Kings organization accepts the league's decision and regret any infraction of the policy," team spokesman Chris Clark said. The amount of the fine was not disclosed. The Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks were also fined.
