Kings restricted free agent Tyreke Evans began free agency by meeting with the New Orleans Pelicans when free agency began at 9:01 p.m. PST, in Los Angeles, The Bee has learned.
Evans' agent, Arn Tellem, is based in Southern California.
The Kings extended a qualifying offer to Evans last week worth $6.9 million for next season.
Evans can negotiate with other teams and sign an offer sheet, but the Kings can match any offer. The Kings could also agree to a sign-and-trade with Evans.
But David Aldridge of NBA.com reports New Orleans has a "big" offer sheet ready for Evans.
Evans would like a contract worth about $10 million annually. Evans is believed to have more than 10 teams interested in him and is not expected to make a decision tonight.
