LAS VEGAS - There was a new coach at this evening's summer league practice, but he's not officially on the Kings' coaching staff.
Popeye Jones, the former NBA player who had been on staff with Brooklyn since 2010 was helping coach the post players. Jones, however, was doing so on a volunteer basis and has not been added to the staff.
It would not be shocking to see Jones added in the future. Kings coach Michael Malone said last week he was not done filling out his staff. And the coach the Kings looked at initially as a big man coach, Roy Rogers, joined Jason Kidd's staff in Brooklyn.
Jones played 11 seasons in the NBA, but might be best known these days as the father of Seth, who was the fourth overall pick of the Nashville Predators in the NHL Draft.
