When was the last time you read "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"? Most of us have a fond memory of the book. My fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Walls, read a few pages in class every day.

Now, Sacbee.com is making it easy to rediscover "Tom Sawyer" -- or introduce it to your children or grandchildren.

The Sacramento Bee partnered with the Sacramento Library's The Big Read / One Book Sacramento, Access Sacramento and a host of community leaders for a very special project to promote reading and literacy.

At sacbee.com/tomsawyer beginning Thursday, Sept. 29, we'll be rolling out a new chapter daily during the monthlong "Big Read." Access Sacramento recorded video of each reader, so you'll see their video and the text of a new chapter each day so you can read along.

The Bee will host a free workshop on photographic techniques to capture the brilliant colors of fall foliage at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The 90-minute workshop will be led by free-lance photographer Dave Henry, who has shot fall foliage and taught photography classes for The Bee for more than 30 years.

Dave will share his favorite spots in the Sierra foothills for the most picturesque fall landscapes. For more details on the workshop and to reserve a seat, click here.
