State Scientists announce student finalists for annual award

A Davis high school student is among the three finalists for the Outstanding Young Scientist Award that the California Association of Professional Scientists will present on Sept. 22.

A project by Davis Senior High School student Madeline Sides, 16, examines how changes in the air and seawater have an impact on plankton. She is competing against Sheena Song, a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates and Marci Rosenberg, a junior at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego.

CAPS will announce the winner at a luncheon at the Sacramento Zoo. The winner gets a $1,000 scholarship. The other two finalists will receive $500 scholarships.
