The State Worker

Chronicling civil-service life for California state workers

The impact of 'Sandwich Thursday'

Bee colleague Gina Kim is working on a story about whether more state workers took today off then normal, since yesterday was Veterans Day and tomorrow is yet another "Furlough Friday."

These kinds of stories are the most interesting when state workers talk about what they're doing and why. Some folks probably saw the calendar way back in February or July, realized that there was a "Sandwich Thursday" this month, and put in for the day off. Or perhaps having two days off this week has added extra pressure to your Thursday workload. Maybe there's some other aspect of the day that we should report.

If you'd like to be part of the story, contact Gina via e-mail at You can also e-mail The State Worker at or call (916) 321-1043.
