The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is partnering with a wide variety of employee, community and law enforcement groups to raise money, collect toys and distribute food in three dozen charitable events around California that begin on Saturday and run through Christmas Day.
A few examples:
Saturday: Toys collected by Mule Creek State Prison employees in Ione will be placed on a float that will be driven in the Ione Christmas Parade. The toys will then be given to the Amador County Sheriff's Department for distribution to local families who can't afford gifts for their children.
Wednesday: Ironwood State Prison plans a "Gift for Kids" event, allowing needy families in the community to shop for their children. The gifts are donated
by both Chuckawalla Valley State Prison and Ironwood State Prison staff.
Dec. 20-21, 2010: Staff from the California Institution for Men will deliver toys to children at Canyon Ridge Hospital, Mt. San Antonio Hospital, and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
