Despite tough times, folks at the Board of Equalization and CalPERS donated about 65 tons of food to the 2010 California State Employees Food Drive.

BOE said Thursday that it collected more than 81,000 pounds of food. Earlier this week, CalPERS said it collected nearly 50,000 pounds of food.

The collection period ran from Nov. 1 through Jan. 3. The donations go to California Emergency Foodlink, which is passing the goods on to Sacramento-area food closets.

Foodlink spokeswoman Mary Meagher said that the organization will finish picking up donations today, so verified numbers for all state employee donations should be available next week. We'll post the info here.
