When it comes to fashion, the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards fall each year somewhere between the Golden Globes (party time) and the Academy Awards (behave yourself). Oh yes, and don't forget the Grammys, which is a true study in wardrobe changes. (They're on Feb. 11).
This Sunday, Melissa Rivers (shown above) will host the SAG red-carpet show at 3 p.m. on the TV Guide Channel. And she'll be doing it sans mother, Joan Rivers.
Over the phone from L.A., Melissa says she enjoys the SAGs - "fun from a fashion perspective" - but she admits she has mixed feelings on shows where "we're honoring each other."
And, like with the Golden Globes, both movie and TV accomplishments will be honored.
"I know everybody votes for themselves, but then you ask about it and it gets awkward, kind of like in high school," she says.
Still, Melissa says awards junkies should keep in mind that the SAG Awards are important.
"They are a major awards show," she says, "just a little bit looser."
For Sunday's show, Melissa has already selected a "pretty dress from Prada." And, yes, she's pondering that all-important gown for the Oscars on Feb. 25. As for the Grammys, she says she enjoys watching the wardrobe trucks pulling up ahead of the celebs.
"Anything goes there, from jeans to gowns."
You can catch the SAG Awards telecast at 8 p.m. Sunday on both TNT and TBS.
