Our very own Sacramento River Cats are hitting the local fashion scene. On Wednesday, the team unveiled its new logo at a packed show - Project Home Runway - at Spataro Restaurant and Bar. Following the unveiling, a packed audience was treated to a fashion show featuring the work of eight local designers, including Michael Sommerfield, co-owner of Miosa Couture, and Casey Sue Douglass.
Starting today, at 9 a.m., about 13 pieces from the show, including tops and dresses, will be auctioned by the River Cats, including Casey Sue's baseball-swinging dress (shown above). Gabe Ross, director of media relations for the Cats, says the auction likely will run about three weeks - "until the bidding slows."
To check out the fashions up for bid, visit www.rivercats.com and click on the "auction" link. Gabe adds that all proceeds raised from the auction will go to River Cats Independence Field, a baseball/softball field in Sacramento designed specifically for adults and kids with disabilities. Funds will be used for Phase 2 of the field's development, including dugouts.
And, keep your fashion eyes on the calendar: All of the designers will be honored - and their designs displayed at a River Cats home game - early in the 2007 season. The River Cats' first game is April 5.
Plus: I'll be writing more on Wednesday -- see Scene's Page 3.
