Eight years ago, former high-school chums and fellow car enthusiasts Gary Hunter and Rex Rodin were looking for a family-oriented car club to join, but couldn't find the right chemistry.
"So we formed our own family-oriented club - Capitol City Cruisers," Hunter said. "We're a bunch of car guys whose wives (and children and grandchildren) are as involved as much as we are."
What does Hunter have tucked away in his garage? "I have a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, and my wife Susan has a 1964 Ford Falcon convertible," he said.
The CCC sponsors a long list of car shows in Northern California. Among its regular events, the CCC has teamed with Red Hawk Casino to present the seventh annual Spring Fest Car Show, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
It's where the owners of more than 300 hot rods, street rods, muscle and classic cars will gather from around the state to show off their rides. All of CCC's events are fund-raisers for the Gifts From the Heart Foundation (www.capitolcitycruisers.org).
The free event will be on Level One of the Red Hawk Casino's parking garage, 1 Red Hawk Parkway, Shingle Springs; (888) 573-4395, www.redhawkcasino.com.
