In search of entries for its myriad competitions, the Sacramento County Fair is giving online applicants a bonus: An extra week to submit their forms.
Traditional mailed entries must be postmarked by Saturday. But contestants who want to go paperless can submit an application online by April 30.
As a bonus, all exhibitors may purchase discounted admission tickets and parking.
The fair's annual contests are open to all Sacramento County residents. Among this year's events is a cookie bakeoff with the five finalists invited to bake their specialties on stage for the judges. A wheelbarrow gardening contest challenges gardeners to create a movable mini-garden.
Hundreds of categories from homemade jams to hand-stitched quilts are part of the exhibitors guide, available online at www.sacfair.com.
Printed copies of the guide can be picked up during weekdays at the fair office on the Cal Expo grounds, 1600 Exposition Blvd., Sacramento.
The guide contains details on regulations, fees, delivery and judging dates for each competition. There's still some time to finish entries; most items don't need to be delivered until just before the fair starts.
This year's Sacramento County Fair will be held May 26 through 30 at Cal Expo.
