Thousands of people are expected to converge on the State Capitol tomorrow when the March of Dimes hosts its March for Babies, a fundraising event to support infants in Sacramento.
The six-mile walk begins at 9 a.m. on the west steps of the capitol, on 10th Street between L and N streets. Activities for children, refreshments, music and more activities are planned, a March of Dimes news release states.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and also is available online by clicking here.
Funds raised will benefit prenatal wellness programs, research grants, support programs for families of babies in neonatal intensive care units and outreach efforts, the release states.
A special 2-year-old and her family also will be attending the event. Emma Studer, this year's local Ambassador Baby, weighed just 1 pound, 1.5 ounces when she was born at 27 weeks gestation. She spent more than a year in Sutter Memorial Hospital's neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, battling infections and undergoing treatments for underdeveloped lungs and short bowel syndrome.
Though she still faces challenges, Emma is now at home and thriving, the release states.
