Dancers of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to audition for the nationally recognized Grass Valley Nutcracker this Saturday.
The national magazine, Dance Studio Life, published the story, "Thinking Big in a Small Town," about Grass Valley's dance community in July. In the article, Nutcracker director Santia Enos acknowledged that she casts almost everyone who auditions (she needs 125 dancers, after all), with the exception of some very young children.
"Our rule: If they're climbing the walls during auditions, then they'll never make it through the rehearsal process."
In an effort to adjust to the production's growing popularity, there will be a requirement of two years of dance experience for ages 10 and older this year.
Center Stage, a nonprofit organization, tries to keep participation fees low, and some scholarships are available.
Auditions will be at Center Stage Dance Studio, 130 W. Berry Hill Drive, in Grass Valley. The production will run from Dec. 2-4 at Nevada Union High School's Don Baggett Theatre, 11761 Ridge Road, in Grass Valley.
