Both novice and weathered gardeners will find a wealth of expertise - and some great buys, too - at this weekend's third annual Fall Festival, hosted by the Shepard Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park.
The longtime hub of Sacramento garden club activity, the center hosts more than 50 local clubs, ranging from the American Fuchsia Society to textile arts and crafts. Most of those groups will be represented, offering advice as well as deals. Master gardeners also will staff a Q&A table; bring your questions and samples (packed in sealed plastic bags).
Among the items for sale will be fuchsias, bromelaids, cymbidium orchids, cacti, African violets and more plants grown by local club members. Also featured are vendors offering a wide array of garden-inspired arts and crafts including jewelry, paintings, stationery, pottery, clothing, self-watering pots, floral arrangements and scented toiletries. A bargain bin offers scores of books, mostly on garden-related subjects.
Admission is free. The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The center is located at 3330 McKinley Blvd., Sacramento. Questions? Call (916) 264-8800.
