Motorsports fans can get a free sneak peek at the newest IndyCar on Saturday at Infineon Raceway.
The Sonoma track will host six drivers, who will be testing the new 2012 race car over Infineon's road course. The drivers scheduled to attend include veteran Formula One driver Rubens Barrichello, E.J. Viso, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Sausalito native J.R. Hildebrand.
The test session runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Fans will be allowed to watch from the main grandstand, wander around the paddock and attend a driver press conference at noon.
The Raceway Café will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for breakfast and lunch. Fans also can get an up-close look at the new car at a lunchtime Tech Talk in the Wine Country Winner's Circle.
The new IndyCar features safety improvements while also making the car easier to handle. Series officials expect the new cars to be much quicker on road courses; just how fast, they'll see Saturday.
This preseason test is a prelude to IndyCar's opener March 25 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The series returns to Northern California for the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, Aug. 24-26.
