Get into the spring spirit with the biggest flower and garden show in Northern California.
Through Sunday, the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show is in full bloom at the San Mateo County Events Center, 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo.
With the theme "Gardens for a Green Earth," 20 display gardens - created by award-winning designers - will showcase how to be sustainable with style.
Among this show's big draws are dozens of speakers, ranging from "Yard Crashers" star Ahmed Hassan (noon Saturday) to celebrity chef Martin Yan (11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday). For a full schedule, click on www.sfgardenshow.com and follow the links to "seminars."
Several garden writers will be on hand to discuss and autograph their books. Among them, Sunset garden editor Kathleen Brenzel will sign copies of the "New Sunset Western Garden Book" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Shoppers will find cymbidiums, cattleyas and dendrobiums galore in the show's sprawling Orchid Marketplace. Garden art and gear, perennials, bulbs, tropicals, natives and much more also are offered for sale. (A list of exhibitors can be found at the show's website.)
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $20; seniors (age 65 and up), $18; youth (16 and under) admitted free.
