The adoration of everything Serge Gainsbourg is back.
The one-time 1960's era French pop icon's birthday will be feted by the Sacramento French Film Festival as the 3rd Annual Serge Gainsbourg Birthday Party on March 31st.
The paradigm that worked so well for the past two celebrations will be at play again this year with a cross-pollinated evening of music by DJ Christophe and DJ Roger, the appearance of 5 tribute bands, film clips and a psychedelic light show by artist George Holden.
Gainsbourg, who died in 1991, was a major French pop figure in the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's.
Unlike many figures from that era, Gainsbourg's lascivious nature and tobacco-flaked Gallic irony has remained popular - and never more than the present day.
In some ways he was a most profane Renaissance man. Singer-songwriter, director, creep, actor, photographer, and provocateur are all descriptions that apply to Mr. Gainsbourg.
Tribute bands appearing at the party will include the Harley White Jr. Trio, Afternoon Teacup Collection, Bedroom Kids and Love Is Over from Sacramento & The Slippery Slope from Oakland.
