World-class autos line up for annual Concours d'Elegance

Once again, it's time to plan on a cruise to Carmel-Monterey for Pebble Beach Automotive Week, a unique display of world-class cars and the many special events related to them.

It starts next Wednesday, Aug. 14, culminating Sunday, Aug. 18, with the 63rd Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Look for special exhibits by Alfa Romeo (more than 30 of the Italian thoroughbreds), Lincoln, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Porsche and BMW. A stable of French motorcyles also will be shown.

There's a local connection: Joe and Gayle Hensler, owners of Maranello Bar & Kitchen in Fair Oaks, will show their 1972 Ferrari 246 Dino at Concourso Italiano, to be judged by the Ferrari Club of America.

"It's a yellow GT with tan and black interior," Joe Hensler said. "This will be our first time out since restoring the car, so wish us luck."

Concorso Italiano is one of the most spectacular displays of Italian cars in the world. It takes place Aug. 16 at Laguna Sea Golf Ranch in Monterey.

The full schedule of Concours d'Elegance and related events is at at For paid-in-advance general-admission tickets, to be picked up at the venue, go to the website or call (877) 693-0009 (tickets are $225). Day-of-show tickets purchased at the door are $275. For Club d'Elegance special-packages, call (831) 622-1700.
